My journey to healthy (holistic) living began 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my first born, Christopher. Although I was over the moon happy with the thought of bringing this precious little boy into the world I was also having feelings of despair due to the overwhelming “morning” sickness that I was feeling. My extreme nausea wasn’t just in the early hours but also afternoons and nights! I spent the first three months of my pregnancy in extreme discomfort and I barely slept at night. I consulted with several doctors and even tried hypnotherapy but found no relief. I decided to take matters into my own hands. Since this was pre-internet days I did my research at the library and in bookstores. During this time I was fortunate enough to find some wonderful books about health, diet and nutrition that gave me a basic understanding about how food and lifestyle affects our health.
After spending numerous days researching I made the decision to become vegetarian. Later on I became vegan and raised my son and daughter in the holistic lifestyle. Throughout the years my kids thrived on this lifestyle and we rarely saw doctors or used any type of medication, even OTC, instead treating them with essential oils, supplements and wholesome healthy food whenever they were ill. Food was our medicine and still is today!
Four years after discovering this lifestyle I enrolled at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Toronto, Canada receiving my Registered Holistic Nutritionist designation.
Although my children are now adults and I no longer care for them on a daily basis, I feel that I have given them an education in healthy/holistic living that they can hopefully pass on to their children and other family and friends in their lives. I was so proud recently when a friend of my son’s told me that Christopher helped him to change his life. It’s words like that that makes my journey all the more satisfying. I hope my blog will help you on your path towards living a life full of abundant health and well-being.
Another wonderful tool that helped to shape my life in a very positive way is yoga. When my kids were in high school I discovered yoga, and I have been practicing ever since. I can honestly say that it keeps me balanced in mind, body and spirit. I am so grateful for this amazing practice.
For 12 years I was the publisher of a monthly healthy living magazine and was able to share the word of health and well-being with many. Hopefully, in the process I helped others in some small way on their journeys. Two years ago I made the decision to pass my magazine on to another publisher and take some time to figure out the next chapter of my life. The result is what you are seeing here now on my blog. I want to spend a good portion of my time sharing what I have learned throughout the years with others (you). Also, to be a part of the community of wonderful health enthusiasts everywhere and share my gifts that have been so graciously shared with me over the years.
